Speaker 1

What's up, everybody? How you doing? I'm Greg Olsen and I have partnered up with Truist and they've allowed me to custom make my own day of community giving. So we are starting where our hearts are, Levine Children's Hospital the HEARTest Yard Congenital Heart Center. It's a project that my wife and I are so passionate about, so we figured no better place to start our day of giving than right here.

00:21:04 - 00:36:20

Speaker 1

So now we're going to give you guys a behind the scenes tour of this incredible facility, but more importantly, these incredible health care providers that allow us to continue to elevate the care for our heart families. Hi, how are you? You guys like cupcakes? You can have as many as you want. You get a good look and hear this.

00:36:20 - 00:57:18

Speaker 1

This is a really cool space. We didn't want this to feel like for these young kids that they were really coming to a doctor's office, that they were coming to a place that was here to help them, give them a new chance at lives. All right. So our next stop today on our truest day of giving around the community, we're going to come to a place that's very special to my family called JJ's Red Hots.

57:18 - 01:15:04

Speaker 1

And the story behind this is when we were right behind here is the children's hospital where we just came from. Every time T.J. was in the hospital, having a surgery, having a procedure, and we had time to kill. My wife and I, our family members, we would walk here. It means a lot to our family, brought us great comfort in some tough times.

01:15:04 - 01:31:12

Speaker 1

And we're going to come hang out with the team and JJ and he's going, Well, yeah, now you guys are the best. You guys are a great part of the community. Thanks for this. Everyone loves supporting you guys affect you. That's important. They appreciate you, man. Greg Awesome. Table 88, right? How's my form? Is my form pretty good.

01:31:12 - 01:52:10

Speaker 1

And then you come in like this. Well done. All right, so we just left the Truist branch Operation Hope from Harold learned a little about his journey, a little bit about his work in the community with financial literacy and just overall wellness. And now we have a really big tree. We are going to Green Brothers Juice and we are going to surprise a young boy named Adin.

01:52:12 - 02:16:13

Speaker 1

My son, T.J., has given his gift forward and he is going to, in essence, give his wish to Adin. So we're fired up for this. This should be pretty special. Hey, guys. How we doing? All How do you think you would feel if I told you that you were going to go to the Super Bowl this year? Would that be something you'd be interested in?

02:16:21 - 02:25:10

Speaker 1

Yeah. All right, well, we have a special. We partnered up with Truist and our friends at Make-A-Wish. T.J., tell them how we're doing the wish. Tell them what we're doing.

02:25:10 - 02:31:09

Speaker 2

So I'm going to give my Make-A-Wish that now granted to you. So you can go to the Super Bowl this year.

02:31:10 - 03:06:01

Speaker 1

To have to be able to pay that Make-A-Wish forward with T.J. there, with my family, my wife Kara and our other two kids, Tate and Talbot, that was pretty special. And to see just how much it meant to Aiden, everything him and his family have been through this past year was was pretty special. So our last stop. Last but certainly not least, we are going to Eastway Middle School and we are surprising their middle school football team.

03:06:07 - 03:17:13

Speaker 1

They haven't got new uniforms here at Eastway Middle. They said in probably over a decade we going to outfit their middle school team with all new equipment, all new uniforms and gear, and we're pretty excited about it.

03:17:13 - 03:21:03

Speaker 3

So let's go do it. I want to tell you a little.

03:21:03 - 03:39:02

Speaker 1

Something about what we got going on. remember I told you I had a special guest. We had a big announcement to make. The one thing I'm going to leave you guys with, one thing we said about how you look on the field, right? It's confidence builds a sense of pride. I mean, I play it this way and we are it take pride in how we carry ourselves, pride in how we look.

03:39:12 - 03:59:18

Speaker 1

Playing on this team means something. You got to look good, right? Coach show em, hold each other accountable, take care of each other and build that culture that we're in. That jersey means something. Okay, I'll tell you what. You're going to look great. Now you got to go play. All right. Appreciate you guys. Thank you. Yeah, thank you, guys.

04:00:02 - 04:00:20

Speaker 1

Appreciate you, man.

04:00:23 - 04:07:11

Speaker 4

Yeah. See someone outside of our school. See this special place that it is? It's pretty incredible.

04:07:16 - 04:18:19

Speaker 3

I mean, everything. I mean, I'm a guy that is in the community. I deal with a lot of kids out in the community. I work with a lot of kids. It means everything to these kids and it means everything to me and the coaching staff as well.

04:19:04 - 04:31:22

Speaker 1

All right. Well, thank you guys so much. That's a wrap of our community day of Giving. Thank you so much to Truist for allowing us the opportunity to go out into the community here in Charlotte. Touched so many of the people and so many of the places that are near and dear to our hearts. So thank you guys so much.

04:31:22 - 04:34:09

Speaker 5

This was a blast.

Levine Children’s Hospital

Through T.J.’s three open-heart surgeries—and ultimately, his heart transplant—the Olsen family found comfort and life-saving care at Levine Children’s Hospital. So, naturally, Greg’s first stop on his day of care was spent celebrating the community heroes that work there.

00:00:23:03 - 00:00:34:18

Speaker 1

The hospital approached Caroline well before this facility existed, and they came to us and said, there's a need here that we need to start with, support it, that we want to build out a cardiac neurodevelopment clinic.

00:00:35:00 - 00:00:42:16

Speaker 2

Without them, none of this would be possible. This is a state of the art facility that rivals anyone in the country.

00:00:42:17 - 00:00:59:00

Speaker 1

We've recruited a world class team of specialists to come here and build out that program, and then we needed somewhere to house them. So that small little program and that small little clinic is what grew to the hardest part congenital heart center. So you get a good look in here. This this is a really cool space. We wanted it to be.

00:00:59:00 - 00:01:19:22

Speaker 1

As you can tell, everything in the facility is light. It's open. Hey, what's up? What's up? Hi. How are you? Nice to see you. It's just it's crazy to hear you share your story because it was very similar to ours with our son TJ Bournemouth. Hypoplastic left heart went through all three of his surgeries. He was eight when his heart failed.

00:01:20:08 - 00:01:38:04

Speaker 1

So last summer he had his transplant in June of 2021. Until you go through it, you know, it's a journey. Well, that's all right. We're happy that you guys find great peace with this space and that the health care team here and the clinic, the center has been awesome. So beautiful.

00:01:38:04 - 00:01:54:00

Speaker 2

Now that you once had surgery, how can we make your life much better and how to, you know, make you a well-rounded teenager, adult and put a leg up for, you know, make sure you're successful in life. So this this is it. This is how everything started.

JJs Red Hots

A locally-owned restaurant across the street from Levine Children’s Hospital provided the Olsens with comfort—from both food and friends—on the hardest days of T.J.’s journey.

My wife and I, our family members, we would walk here and we would have lunch. And it means a lot to our family. Brought us great comfort and some tough times. And we're going to come have some hotdogs and hang out with the team and J.J..

00:00:35:06 - 00:00:40:13

Speaker 2

During the pandemic, we had some challenges with people coming into the restaurant. So we kind of, like you said, set up.

00:00:40:20 - 00:00:45:20

Speaker 1

An outside drive. I was one of those people like my wife, my kids, my wife. We'd sit out in the driveway. We had a blast.

00:00:46:00 - 00:01:02:17

Speaker 2

But we had such support from the community and with things like this that with trust in you. And it just means so much to us to know that we're not invisible now, that we're relevant to the community and that job that the customers would would respond even when we were going through some tough times. But that means everything to us.

00:01:02:20 - 00:01:11:13

Speaker 1

All right. We're at table 88, right? How's my form? Is my form pretty good. And then you come in like this. Well done. We're just real thankful for.

00:01:11:20 - 00:01:14:01

Speaker 2

For like you and all our.

00:01:14:01 - 00:01:33:03

Speaker 1

Customers come in every day. We appreciate you guys. It's always cool to have local family run small businesses in town. It just feels different. The environment inside, it's not real big and commercial. We love it. We love supporting local business. We love supporting families like you and well, thank you. Appreciate you guys for service these years. We got a lot of good memories here.

00:01:33:03 - 00:01:41:10

Speaker 1

We're going to be around for a long time. Yes, you are. So we wish you guys. Thanks for everything. This was awesome. Thank you very much. Thank you so much.

Green Brothers Juice Co.

Greg bought smoothies for everyone stopping by Green Brothers Juice Co. on his day of care. And he and T.J. made a wish come true for one super special customer.

00:00:01:04 - 00:00:23:20

Well, we have a really big tree. We are going to Green Brothers Juice and we are going to surprise a young boy named Adin with a super Bowl tickets. Adin has cancer and his dream through Make-A-Wish. My son T.J., has given his gift forward. In essence, give his wish to Adin So we're fired up for this. This should be pretty special.

00:00:24:02 - 00:00:50:02

How are you doing? And I'm Greg Olsen. How are you? Nice to meet you, buddy. Hey, how you doing? Pleasure meeting. Nice to meet you. We partnered up with Truist and our friends at Make-A-Wish to tell them how we're doing the wish. So I'm going to give my Make-A-Wish that now, can we guarantee to you so you can go to the Super Bowl this was so special.

00:00:50:08 - 00:01:10:16

Yeah, well, they said, well, we could get you to the Super Bowl maybe two or three years, you know, so when they called and said, How about this year? I'm like, well, that's amazing. So T.J. had a heart transplant last year and he was offered a Make-A-Wish. So when we heard your story, we are happy to pay our wish forward and make sure that you can go to the Super Bowl.

00:01:10:20 - 00:01:29:11

That was a pretty special moment to be able to pay that Make-A-Wish forward with T.J. there, with my family, my wife Kara and our other two kids, Tate and Talbot, that was pretty special. And to see just how much it meant to Adin. everything him and his family have been through this past year was was pretty special. So.

00:01:29:18 - 00:01:50:17

Adin is going to go to the Super Bowl this year in Arizona, a game that I'm actually going to call, which is just it's just really incredible. And to have TJ be the one that was able to tell him, you know, it was a really proud moment for all of us and something I'm really glad that my kids got to experience and, you know, just see how much it meant to Adin and his family.

Eastway Middle School

When you look like a team, you play like a team. Greg gave the football team at Eastway Middle School a pep talk for the ages, and together we donated new uniforms to help them feel their best.

We are going to East Way Middle School and we are surprising their middle school football team. They haven't gotten new uniforms here in East Bay Middle. They said in probably over a decade we are going to outfit their middle school team with all new equipment, all new uniforms and gear, and we're pretty excited about it. So let's go do it.

00:00:23:20 - 00:00:35:06

Speaker 2

We had a lot of kids that never play football before this year, so just trying to teach the kids how to play the game the right way. It was kind of difficult, but for the most part I think the kids, they started learning.

00:00:35:15 - 00:00:52:01

Speaker 3

I'm at a loss for words because somebody has decided our kids deserve something awesome and I feel like that every single day. But to see someone outside of our school see the special place that it is, it's pretty incredible.

00:00:52:01 - 00:01:09:01

Speaker 1

Putting that uniform on, putting that helmet on and wearing that jersey comes with a price and that's doing every single thing every day on an away from the field. That is in the best interest of yourself, in the best interests of your team, or else you don't get to wear that helmet and you don't get to put that jersey on.

00:01:09:15 - 00:01:10:06

Speaker 1

Is that a deal?

00:01:11:02 - 00:01:23:21

Speaker 2

I think it should rejuvenate far as like the recruiting as far as kids want to participate. I think this is what we needed. This is exactly what we needed in order to change the trajectory of how the season is going and and for future reference as well.

00:01:24:02 - 00:01:29:03

Speaker 1

Hold each other accountable, take care of each other, and build that culture that we're in. That jersey means something.

00:01:29:03 - 00:01:40:05

Speaker 2

Okay, I'm a goddess in the community. I deal with a lot of kids out in the community. I work with a lot of kids. This means everything to these kids and it means everything to me and this coaching staff as well.

Check out other days of care.
